Pilates-based therapeutic movement and rehabilitation in the East Bay, CA
Serving El Cerrito, Albany, Berkeley, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, El Sobrante, Oakland, and other nearby cities
Welcome to Soft Power, where both softness and strength are celebrated across all gender identities and expressions. We help folks find lasting relief with individualized sessions so you can be yourself, get stronger, and get back to doing what you love.
We don’t talk about taboo topics enough.
It can be beyond frustrating when your basic biological functions are going haywire. These symptoms affect everyday activities and can be all-consuming, but you still need strategies and enough strength to get through your day. I’m here to support you in your strengthening endeavors while navigating things like chronic pain, bladder leakage, pregnancy, or surgical recovery.
I hold space for people across the gender spectrum to talk about their symptoms in ways that feel supportive and affirming. We can work together to figure out how to get you moving and build foundations of strength in a way that feels accessible.
You don’t need to wait until your symptoms go away to start an active program; you just need guidance, supervision, and the freedom to collaborate in your own care.
You also get health advice if you want it.
We face conflicting health recommendations every day, whether it’s something you saw on social media, heard about from a friend, or were chain emailed from your great aunt. Easy cures for common ailments can be advertised in ways that make them seem reliable, so it can be really tricky to tell what is actually trustworthy, safe, and effective.
An unbiased professional can help simplify things and offer you clear guidance that's based off the best available evidence and tailored to your needs. You deserve personalized support, accountability, and guidance to help you stay motivated, make informed choices, and build lifelong habits.
Health coaching can fit seamlessly into your movement sessions or stand alone.
What’s Pilates got to do with it?
Soft Power can help you build strength and mobility through pilates-based movement, whether as a key component of your rehabilitation plan, a transitional step to independent exercise, or an ongoing therapeutic modality to keep you on track. We can continue to challenge your body and brain with progressively heavier weights and complex movements so you can continue to live without symptoms, increase your confidence, and get back to things you’ve been missing.
I’m Dr. Rebs and I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Dr. Rebs (they/them/she/her), an occupational therapist in the East Bay, CA with expertise in treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and chronic pain for people of all gender identities. With a lifetime of personal experience navigating both pelvic health issues and persistent pain, I’ve been where you are and this work is deeply meaningful to me. I also know how effective getting stronger can be in making widespread positive changes.
I take a whole-body approach to treatment because it’s the most effective way to make changes. Both the physical and emotional factors impacting your symptoms will be addressed and dissected. I combine orthopedic care with strategies that support you nervous system in a deliberate and careful plan that will help you find lasting relief.
Why choose Soft Power?
You get expert care from a totally nerdy provider who spends the majority of their free time reading research articles and learning more about the specific issues you’re facing. You’re not just getting standard care from a personal trainer; you’re receiving an invitation to collaborate on your care from a true specialist and devotee.
You get time and consistency with hour-long sessions that focus on you with the same provider every time. That means your therapist will learn more about you, your history, your tendencies, your goals, (and probably your pets) with every session to provide even more personalized care every time you visit.
The treatment space is beautiful and comfortable and doesn’t feel like a doctor’s office. You won’t just be told to relax with your pants off in a cold unfriendly room.
Your provider is not just queer & trans friendly, fat friendly, and sex worker friendly. She has competence in treating folks with a variety of identities and expressions and wants to honor your unique experience. You will never be expected to educate your provider on how to be respectful around people with diverse bodies, identities, or preferences.
Treatment is trauma-informed. Every minute of your session will focus on your consent and your comfort. Your provider will give you suggestions, but you’re always in charge.
Your therapist has been the patient. Sometimes providers don’t know what it’s like to be on the other side of really intimate healthcare, and it makes a huge difference in bedside manner when we have personally endured the same anxiety-inducing experiences.
You will get more than passive treatments. Manual therapy and other modalities can feel really nice and can certainly play a big role in calming your nervous system and decreasing global tension, but both research and clinical experience have shown significant positive changes in recovery time and symptom management when patients take an active role in their own care.
This is not just kegels. You will only get kegels in your program if you REALLY need them, and this is a small percentage of patients. There is so much more to getting stronger than squeezing your butthole.
You will be educated on your symptoms and how to manage them. Your treatment will include strategies and tools you can use long term to continue building strength and decreasing flare-ups. The goal is for you to go home with everything you need. You decide if you can self manage or if you need extra guidance and motivation to stick to your program. You get the power for once.
